Attorney General's Office again provides information to consumers at Missouri State Fair
Missourians from across the state have stopped by the Attorney General's table at the Missouri State Fair to pick up information that can help them be more savvy consumers. The State Fair is one of several fairs and festivals during the summer where the Attorney General's Office has had booths to help educate Missourians. Investigator Stephen Meyer chats with one Missourian who stopped by the State Fair booth on Aug. 14.
Nixon presents Vietnam War, Korea War medallions to Missouri veterans in Bucklin
Attorney General Jay Nixon presented medallions to 38 Missouri veterans who served during the Vietnam War or the Korean War in a ceremony in Bucklin on Aug. 1. The ceremony was sponsored by Bucklin Green Hills Post 57 of the American Legion.
In 2006, the Missouri General Assembly passed legislation creating the Vietnam War Medallion Program. Every veteran who honorably served on active duty in the United States military service at any time from Feb. 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 is eligible to receive the medallion and a certificate of appreciation. A similar award, the Korean War Medallion, was created in 2003 for veterans who honorably served on active duty in the United States military service at any time from June 27, 1950 to January 31, 1955.
Attorney General Nixon hosts 300 local government officials at 11th Ethics in Government conference
More than 300 elected and appointed local government officials registered for the 11th Ethics in Government conference sponsored by Attorney General Nixon in Jefferson City on July 10.
Participants heard presentations by assistant attorneys general with expertise in such areas as the Sunshine law, nepotism, the Americans with Disabilities Act, environmental issues, consumer protection issues, sovereign immunity, sexual harassment, employment issues, and the effect of the Hancock Amendment on local governments. A panel of three experienced journalists also provide their perspectives on the Sunshine law and answered questions from conference participants.
More than 2,100 local officials have attended the free all-day conferences that Nixon has offered since 1996.
