Nixon statement on Taum Sauk trial change of venue to Reynolds County

Jefferson City, Mo.— The Attorney General's office has asked the trial court in St. Louis to transfer the Taum Sauk case to the circuit that includes Reynolds County. The following is a statement from Attorney General Jay Nixon:

“We had hoped that this matter could have been resolved prior to litigation. It wasn't. As we prepare for trial, we do not want any more delay. The state is prepared to let the people of that region determine the appropriate damages and penalty. This will also assure that any penalty amount ordered by the court will go to the benefit of those local counties.”
